It's (Not) Just Me

Watched this last night. I basically only read and heard negative criticism about it, plus I’m not a fan of Goodwin so I’m not even sure why I started watching but…

All in all, I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting something pretty terrible but instead, I have to say, I enjoyed this movie quite a lot.

It does have many flaws, so let’s just get over with those: I still don’t think that Goodwin is a likeable actress. Colin Egglesfield as Dex was definitely a bit weak for the role, though I must say he had a difficult task… (eventually his character was very complex, much more complex that could work in a chick-flick) and I think he just wasn’t charismatic enough. Reminded me of a young Tom Cruise, nonetheless. Kate Hudson was terrific, as always, I adore her but let’s be honest: in real life, no Rachels are this close friends with Darcys. And I definitely found Darcy’s ending a bit forced.

Anyways. I still liked it. Rachel did resonate with me a lot, at that point, after her party in the beginning… being 30, not knowing what you want, where you’re going, hating your job… yeah, sounds quite familiar. (I just don’t have a Dex, lol). I did like how they were figthing something that was inevitably there, how scared they were and how they were desperately trying to do what they had always been expected to do. Egglesfield might not have been charismatic enough but I still found him loveable. Apart from them, John Krasinski did a wonderful job, every scene with him was pure gold.

This movie surprised me, in a good way. Could have been better, but given that I was expecting much worse… I must say it’s a keeper for me.

PS I’m constantly thinking who would have been a better choice for Rachel…
