Probably everyone has seen The Notebook. Well, I haven’t. The only movie I must have seen Ryan Gosling in had to be Remember the Titans - and though I remember the Titans, I don’t remember RG :) Ever since watching the trailer I just knew I was going to watch Drive and that I was going to watch it in the cinema. But I had no expectations at all. Not about the movie, not about Gosling.
And it completely blew me away. The atmosphere, the soundtrack, the story, the directing, Ryan. I fell so deep and so quickly :)
I obviously decided to discover Gosling more - and I gotta say, he’s one of the most brilliant and versatile actors of his generation. He’s got such a strong vibe around him… you can feel it through his interviews, as well. Watch his movies. They’re worth every minute of your life.
Crazy Stupid Love’s Jacob was perfect to contrast the Driver - or, also a bit to contrast any of Gosling’s roles. Every single scene with Ryan in CSL is pure brilliance.

I watched this last night.
I’ll be honest, I was a bit afraid before watching that I won’t be able to connect enough with the characters or the story, mostly given my distance from drug-related issues.
But not more than 1 minute into the movie I was genuinely caring for Dan. Whether it had to do with Gosling or… I don’t know. Maybe it was easier for me to identify with him since he’s a teacher. Gosh, how I wish I could have been a teacher like that! And you soon figure it’s not about the drugs, it’s just about being f.cked up. You have an idea how your life’s gonna go - and then it doesn’t go that way. And then you get into this vicious circle. And how do you get out. And when you yourself are so screwed up, how can you help someone else. Because how could you? Is life always this f.cked up or maybe you can change things..?
So many amazing scenes. I don’t wanna spoil anyone, because seriously, do yourselves a favor and watch this movie.
Shareeka Epps as the girl is perfect in her simplicity. While Gosling… He reminded me a bit of a young Edward Norton here. He’s just brilliant. All the awards and the Oscar nomination he got for this role, so well-deserved.
Absolutely a must-see.
